Katy, Texas – The Texas Southern Women's Golf team posted a total score of 610 (309 – 301), tying for third place at the end of day one of the 30th anniversary of the National Women's Collegiate Golf Championship, hosted by the Women's in Golf Foundation on Tuesday.
Junior Azul Amezcua leads the Tigers, sitting atop the leaderboard after carding a 1-under-par day one total of 141 (74 – 67). Amezcua fired a 4-under-par 67 in her second round, which included seven birdies, seven pars, and three bogies, leading the tournament by one stroke.
Graduate student Kennedi Lee is tied for 13th place with a score of 154 (79 – 75), while Alexa Gonzalez is three strokes back at 157 (79 – 78). Sophomore Phaith Harris posted a score of 161 (80 – 81).
The WIGF National Women's Collegiate Golf Championship is hosted at The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch. The tournament format includes 54 holes over two days, with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start for the final round on Wednesday.
