The TSU soccer duo of Ashley Arnes and Alexis Espino was named the SWAC’s Offensive and Goalkeeper of the Week after their play against Grambling State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Arnes contributed two goals in the second half to help lift Texas Southern to a 3-1 comeback win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday. The Layton, Utah native played a total of 191 minutes over the course of the weekend as TSU finished the week of play with a 1-0-1 record.
Espino tallied 28 saves in two games over the weekend including 21 saves during a double overtime draw against Grambling State. During the Tigers’ contest versus GSU, the San Diego, Calif. native also made a key save in overtime on a penalty kick.
TSU is back in action on Friday against Alcorn State back at the Campbell Road Sports Park in Houston. The match will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday’s game against Mississippi Valley State will take place at home inside Durley Stadium at 1 p.m.
