History
Dallas Balanay-Flores reached 1,000 career assists but the Texas Southern volleyball team fell 3-1 to Northwestern State on Tuesday evening at the H&PE Arena.
Balanay-Flores came into the competition just five assists shy of the 1,000 mark and was able to post a match-high 25 assists in the evening.
TSU came out to a strong start in the first set winning 25-20, however attack errors in the second set were costly as they dropped a heart-breaker 26-24.
It was a close game in the beginning of the third set as NSU was up 8-7, however the Demons would score six points in a row to take a bigger advantage. NSU won the set 25-16.
In the fourth set, the score was as close as 9-8. NSU went on a 10-5 run to take the largest lead of the set, 19-13. The Tigers tried to fight back as they would score four points in a row, but it wasn’t enough down the stretch as the Demons would close out the match 25-21.
Amber Johnson paced the Tigers with 14 kills while Gracie Hill and Kennedy Reed tallied 12 and 10 each. On top of Balanay-Flores’ 25 assists, Ava Ray added in 19.
NSU was led by Teresa Garza’s 11 kills. Piper Boydstun chipped in 24 assists while Amina Attra added 17.
Texas Southern will travel to Jacksonville, Fla on Friday to participate in the North Florida Invite. TSU will open against North Florida at 9 a.m.
