GRAMBLING, La. – Texas Southern completed a high-scoring series sweep over Grambling State in non-conference action on Friday and Saturday.
TSU 23, GRAMBLING STATE 12
In a high-scoring affair, the Texas Southern baseball team emerged victorious with a 23-12 win over Grambling State, thanks to a stellar performance by left-handed pitcher Calvin McClendon.

McClendon delivered five solid innings, allowing just two runs on four hits, striking out four, and issuing only one walk.

The Tigers' offense was on fire, led by Jaden Jones, who racked up four hits and drove in five runs. Tuffy Legendre also had an impressive game with four hits, including a home run, and four RBIs.

Every player in the lineup contributed, resulting in a total of 21 hits for the team.

Jaden Flores had a multi-hit game and celebrated his first home run of the season. Evan Joubert added to the offensive onslaught with two hits, including his third home run of the season, while Elijah Rodriguez chipped in with a couple of hits as well.

TSU 14, GRAMBLING STATE 4
TSU scored 13 runs over the final four innings to run-rule Grambling State 14-4 on Saturday afternoon.

TSU jumped ahead 1-0 in the first after a bases-loaded walk but GSU answered with a homer in the bottom frame and a balk in the third for a 2-1 lead after three. Tyler "Tuffy" Legendre doubled home

Jonathan Trejo to tie it at 2-all while Jesse Herrera III and Jaden Jones had an RBI to move ahead 4-2. Miguel Morales' sac RBI in the fifth upped the lead to 5-2 followed by an RBI from Kelton Phillips and Herrera III's RBI triple for a 7-2 margin. TSU added four runs in the sixth as Evan Joubert tripled home Jones and Jaden Flores. Trejo added a SAC fly RBI along with a Herrera III RBI single for an 11-2 lead.

GSU added two runs in the sixth but TSU put the game away in the seventh as Trejo's three-run homer gave TSU a 10-run margin. Reliever Leeroy Tavarez struck out two of the final three batters in the seventh to wrap up the game.

Herrera III went 3-for-3 with three RBI, two walks and two runs scored from the leadoff spot. Jones, Joubert, Trejo and Phillips all had two hits while Trejo drove in four RBI.

James Malone struck out five over five innings to earn his first win of the year.

TSU 12, GRAMBLING STATE 11
TSU jumped out to a big lead and held on at the end to sweep the series 12-11 in the nightcap.

Jaden Jones scored to open the first while Jesse Herrera III singled home Tyler "Tuffy" Legendre for a 2-0 lead in the second. Bryce Hughes broke the gates open with a three-RBI double followed by Jaden Flores' RBI bunt single for a 6-0 lead.

GSU scored a run in the second but TSU kept applying pressure in the third as Elijah Rodriguez and Legendre recorded an RBI to up the margin to 8-1. GSU scored again in the third and fourth to get within 8-3 but TSU returned to the board in the fifth as Jones and Flores logged an RBI followed by Evan Joubert's two-run homer for a 12-3 lead.

Grambling State had a furious rally in the sixth with a five-run frame to draw within 12-8. After a 1-2-3 top of seventh by TSU, GSU took advantage of a TSU error for the leadoff runner to reach base followed by a single which put the tying run at the plate. Reliever David Medina picked up a big strikeout but a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position.

Medina once again came up big with a strikeout but GSU recorded a two-out double and single to get within 12-11. Medina buckled down with the tying run on base and forced a popout to end the game.

Flores went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Hughes had three RBI and Joubert had two.

Kewan Braziel recorded his first win after pitching three innings of action while David Medina earned his first save of the year.

TSU is back in action on Wednesday in College Station, Texas at Texas A&M for a 6 p.m. start.
