PONCE, PUERTO RICO – The Texas Southern Women's Golf Team finished in third place after posting a total of 924 (308 – 315 - 301) at the ASU Hornet Invitational hosted by Alabama State University on Wednesday.
Graduate Student Alexa Gonzales fired a personal record (PR) score of four-under-par 68 in her final round to climb up the leaderboard and finished tied for fifth-place individually on 227 (82 – 77 – 68). Gonzalez's final rounded included six birdies, ten pars, and two bogeys for her PR. Fellow grad, Kennedi Lee, finished in eighth place individually with her 229 (74 – 79 – 76) total while sophomore Shawnise Gregory was two strokes back on 231 (74 – 78 – 79) and in 10th place. Azul Amezcua posted a 237 (78 – 81 – 78) total.
The Hornet Invitational, a 54-hole tournament held over two days, was hosted at the Costa Caribe Golf & Country Club. The Tigers return to action March 30 as they compete in the National Women's Collegiate Golf Championship hosted by the Women In Golf Foundation at The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch in Katy, Texas.
