

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern scored seven unanswered runs over the last three innings Friday to stun the Tigers of Texas Southern University by a score 9-8 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
The Jaguars trailed 8-2 after six innings, but came back to tie with six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. They plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
TSU's Jose Camacho hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to stretch the Tiger lead to 8-2. Victor Cruz knocked a three-RBI, bases-loaded double in the top of the second inning for the Tigers.
Mason Furlong started for the Tigers and allowed only two earned runs while striking out six batters. He left the game with an 8-2 lead after five innings in position to earn the win.
Southern and TSU resume their three-game series Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
