• The Texas Southern women's basketball team is back in action at home on Saturday against Mississippi Valley State at 3 p.m. Saturday is also Senior Night for the Lady Tigers.
• TSU has two losses in conference play against Southern and Grambling, 2/13/25 and 2/15/25. Before, The Lady Tigers went 11-0 in the SWAC, its best start since 1980-81.
• This season, the women's basketball schedule changes drastically as the women will play SWAC games on Thursday (single game) and Saturday (doubleheader). This marks the first time since 1995 that the SWAC has altered its league basketball schedule.
• This marks the third season for TSU head coach Vernette Skeete. This season also marks the first time the roster will be upperclassman-heavy after fielding underclassmen-heavy rosters the past two years. Five newcomers were added via the transfer portal and two via the JUCO ranks. TSU returns three starters and six letter winners as the Tigers also changed their coaching staff by adding a pair of assistant coaches and an operations director in the offseason.
•Since the 2012-13 season, TSU holds a 21-6 record against MSVU. TSU won their last matchup on 1/9/25, 80-54.
•MSVU is currently 1-12 in conference play. D'yanah Maxey is their leading scorer with 10.7 ppg. Second-year head coach Kimberly Anderson leads MSVU. Before joining the Devilettes, Anderson coached at Lane College for seven seasons with the Lady Dragons. In the 2018-19 season, Anderson took the Lady Dragons to their first-ever NCAA D-II Postseason Tournament, thanks to them winning their first-ever SIAC Postseason Championship Tournament.
•Junior forward Jaida Belton was named to the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference Preseason All-SWAC Second Team. A native of Baltimore, Md., Belton also has four double-doubles this season and is ninth in the SWAC with 17 blocked shots while the league's seventh-leading rebounder (6.9). Jaida secured her 500th rebound in the win over Alcorn State. Jaida recorded a double-double against PVAMU.
•TSU ranks 9th nationally in offensive rebounds (16.2) and 13th in rebounds (42.52).TSU also ranks 20th in blocks (4.8).
•TSU leads the SWAC in blocked shots (120) and defensive rebounds (26.3).
•TSU was picked to finish ninth in the SWAC's Preseason Poll.
•TSU has squared off against five NCAA D-1 conferences this year as they faced teams from the Big 12 (3), American (2), WAC (2), SEC (1), Southland (2).
•TSU head coach Vernette Skeete is 5-15 all-time in the month of February.
