History
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Despite a stellar pitching performance by senior left-hander James Malone, the Tiger baseball team fell to the UTSA Roadrunners for the third consecutive time.
Malone delivered six quality innings, allowing just two runs on four hits, striking out five, and issuing only three walks. He kept the Roadrunner hitters off balance with a mix of fastballs, sliders, and change-ups, with his success largely attributed to his effective fastball placement.
Offensively, the Tigers managed to score four runs on eight hits in the nine-inning contest. Their big inning came in the top of the fifth, where they scored all four runs on five consecutive hits. The rally began with an EJ Alanis walk, followed by an Alex Diaz double, another double by Damian Garcia, a single by Jason Lazo, a bunt single by Bryce Hughes, and capped off with a base hit by Jaden Jones. Unfortunately, this fifth inning was the only time the TSU bats were able to produce runs as UTSA scored five times in the eighth to reclaim the lead for good.
Lazo and Daylon Carleton both went 2-for-4 while Garcia added two RBI. Joshua Prieto was credited with the loss in relief.
The Tigers will look to bounce back on Tuesday night as they travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
