The Texas Southern University baseball team survived and advanced an elimination round in the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Baseball Tournament against Prairie View, 3-2 at Russ Chandler Stadium on Wednesday morning.
Domenic Martinez struck out a career-high nine batters with no walks, while only giving up one earned run. Martin led TSU at the plate going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Prairie View got on the board first with one run at the top of the second, and the Tigers responded with a run of their on at the bottom of the frame as Victor Molina reached on a fielding error and advanced to second on a passed ball. He moved up a base on a sacrifice-fly by Edmundo Alanis and scored on a single by Shannon Martin.
In the fifth inning, CJ Castillo walked and reached home as Tyler Williams doubled to left center.
The Panthers tied the game at two runs at the top of the eighth, but The Tigers put up its last run at the bottom of the frame as Jordan Vidato’s base hit brought Jaden Jones home.
Texas Southern will take on the loser of Game 7 (Prairie View or Jackson State) on Friday at 9 a.m. ET. Game 7 is slated to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
