Texas Southern Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Kevin Granger has announced the promotion of Harlan "Stefann" Robinson to the role of Assistant Athletics Director/Operations and Facilities Management.
"I've had the opportunity to work alongside Stefann for over a decade and have been impressed with his professionalism, work-ethic and vast knowledge of our industry," said Granger. "He's well-respected across our campus, Houston area and the Southwestern Athletic Conference. I'm looking forward to working with Stefann in his new role as we continue to grow and enhance the Texas Southern Athletics brand."
Robinson has 40-plus years in athletic administration in a variety of roles including 16 years at Texas Southern. At TSU, Robinson is responsible for the development and execution of sponsorships, event operations, ground transportation and facility management. He brought decades of experience and knowledge to TSU when he started as a consultant in 2008. He was named the Athletics Marketing and Promotions Manager in October of 2008. Later, he was named the department's Operations Director in 2021 and he assists the Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics with fiscal, facility, compliance and operation matters.
Robinson has helped secure $5 million-plus dollars through corporate partnerships in his role at TSU. He has provided leadership in planning and organizing major events over the course of his career including the annual TSU Relays, Labor Day Classic and the opening of then-BBVA Stadium in 2012.
Prior to his role at Texas Southern, Robinson spent 16 years as its Assistant AD, Athletic Business Manager and Sports Information Director at Prairie View A&M University. Robinson also has served as Auxiliary Enterprise Manager for athletics at Southern University along with a brief stint as Public Information Specialist at Albany State University in Albany, Ga.
Robinson was awarded the 2006 SWAC Alumni Association Charles "Chuck" Prophet Wagon Master award, which is given to an employee of a SWAC member institution that best exemplifies spirit, dedication and loyalty to his or her school. He also received the "SWAC Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award" for contributions to the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2023. Robinson was named SWAC Sports Information Director of the Year in 2006 and currently serves as Vice President of the SWAC Alumni Association and he is a member of the Association's Board of Directors.
Robinson received both a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1982 and a master's degree in athletics administration in 1993 from Alcorn State University. He is a member of the Alcorn State National Alumni Association, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, College Sports Communicators of America, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Phi Beta Lambda.
