History
Jacylyn Russ's second-half goal was all TSU needed as the soccer team upped its winning streak to three straight following a 1-0 win over Alabama A&M Friday night.
TSU once again set the tone in the first half with nine shots as Melissa Knutson, Victoria Pucci and Russ had three straight shots within a seven-minute span. The Tigers would keep the pressure on the AAMU defense throughout the half but both teams ended the half tied at 0-0.
Three minutes into the second half, TSU finally kicked the zero off the scoreboard as Isabella Dillow intercepted an AAMU pass and raced down the field to find Russ. Russ would hold off two defenders and slip the ball past the goalie for the 1-0 lead.
The contest would turn physical from that point as three yellow cards were issued but the TSU defense stepped up when needed as goalies Alesandra Bastidas and Alicia Adu combined for four saves. With the exception of a penalty kick last weekend against Southern, TSU has yet to allow a goal in play during SWAC play.
TSU has another showdown on Sunday as they'll host Alabama State at 1 p.m. inside Durley Stadium.
