Texas Southern dropped a midweek softball home contest against Stephen F. Austin by a 5-1 margin Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Park.
With two outs in the first and the bases loaded, SFA hit a single to right but a fielding error allowed three runs to cross home for the early 3-0 lead. The Jacks tacked on another run in the second with an RBI single to center for a 4-0 lead. TSU would place two runners on with one out in the bottom of the second but couldn’t capitalize as they recorded a strikeout and groundout. SFA’s Mackenzie Bennett hit a solo homer in the third for a 5-0 margin. TSU would find itselves once again in the bottom of the fourth again with a pair of runners on but failed to cross any home.
The Tigers broke through in the sixth as Ashlin Moreno drew a walk and scored after back-to-back singles from Tevanae Tate and Ja’Lynn Swiney.
TSU would finish with five hits as a team led by Swiney’s RBI. Lailah Bell dropped her first decision of the season as she lasted five innings followed by Cat Hernandez.
TSU is back in action against Grambling State for a 3 p.m start at Memorial Park on Friday.
