PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – TSU's bid to capture the series against Prairie View A&M fell short as they fell in doubleheader action on Saturday.
PVAMU 7, TSU 5
Prairie View A&M held off a late TSU charge to claim one 7-5.
PVAMU jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three but TSU tied it up in the fourth as Lanay Carr drove in DaNia Durr for a 3-1 margin. Amerie Martin drove in two runs to tie it at 3-all entering the bottom of the fourth.
An error on an infield bunt moved the leadoff runner to scoring position to open the fifth. The runner would eventually score for a 4-3 margin followed by a two-RBI single as TSU trailed 6-3. Marissa Martinez hit a one-out single in the sixth and she eventually scored on a passed ball. Kyle Wilson cut the lead to 6-5 with an RBI single but the inning ended abruptly as she was thrown out while stealing.
PVAMU added a run in the sixth but TSU attempted to fight back in the seventh with two runners on with two outs. However, the game would end on a fielder's choice.
Carr finished 3-for-4 with one run and an RBI while Wilson and Destiny Menchaca had two hits. Melonie Guardiola went four innings as she was tagged with the loss on the mound.
PVAMU 6, TSU 2
A three-run first inning by PVAMU was all they needed as they won the series by a 6-2 margin.
PVAMU forced two walks and an infield single to open the game as they turned it into a 3-0 lead once the dust settled. The lead would grow to 6-0 after the fourth as TSU found the scoreboard in the seventh with two runs.
Lanay Carr went 2-for-2 while Kristen Driver fell to 1-2 on the year on the mound.
TSU is back in action at home against Southern on Friday at 3 p.m. in Memorial Park.
