Texas Southern started off SWAC play on the right foot with a 10-0 win over Alcorn State at Memorial Park on Friday.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, freshman DaNia Durr doubled home Marisa Perla for the game's first run. Fellow freshman Destiny Menchaca tripled home Durr to the right field fence for a 2-0 margin while senior Madison Battle drew a walk. Junior Lanay Carr upped the margin to 3-0 with an RBI single followed by junior Marissa Martinez's RBI single. Two batters later, freshman Kylie Wilson drew a bases loaded walk for a 5-0 lead. Perla's two-RBI single gave TSU a 7-0 lead while Wilson scored on a wild pitch to lead 8-0. Another wild pitch allowed Perla to score for a 9-0 lead.

Carr would score on an Amerie Martin single for the game's 10th run as TSU cruised the rest of the way for its first win of the year.

Eight players recorded a hit while Perla led the way with two RBI. Perla and Carr both scored twice.

Wilson earned her first career win on the mound as she pitched a one-hitter while striking out three.

TSU closes out the series with a noon doubleheader on Saturday at Memorial Park.
