Houston, Texas - Texas Southern fell to UAPB Golden Lions 11-8 on Saturday, despite collecting 12 hits to UAPB's 11. Jonathan Trejo led Texas Southern with three hits.
UAPB Golden Lions took an early lead in the second inning, scoring six runs due to errors and timely hits from Trinidad DeLaGarza and Gavin Terry. Texas Southern responded in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Damian Garcia and a walk by Elijah Rodriguez, making the score 8-2.
Texas Southern tied the game in the eighth inning with a double by Bryce Hughes and a home run by Jaden Jones. However, UAPB regained the lead in the tenth inning with runs driven in by DeLaGarza, Terry, and Carlos Rodriguez-Valez.
#31 earned the win for UAPB Golden Lions, pitching two innings and striking out four. Jace Maynard took the loss for Texas Southern, allowing one run on two hits in one inning. Kewan Braziel started for Texas Southern, giving up eight runs (three earned) over four innings. #36 started for UAPB, allowing two runs over three and one-third innings.
Texas Southern's offense was led by Hughes, Jason Lazo, and Jones, each driving in two runs. Kelton Phillips and Daylon Carlton also had multiple hits. The team showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks, with Hughes and Phillips leading with two each. Texas Southern turned one double play in the game.
UAPB Golden Lions' offense was driven by DeLaGarza, Dane Small, and Brant Voth, each collecting two hits. Eli Gries-Smith and DeLaGarza each drove in three runs.
The Tigers are back in action at MacGregor Park on Sunday, April 13, for day three against UAPB. First pitch is at 1 pm.
