History
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – TSU closed out the regular season in solid fashion with an 80-68 win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday.
In typical rivalry fashion, Prairie View A&M came out aggressive as they took an early 20-12 lead. TSU would turn to Josh Farmer from that point as the Houston native took control of the game and scored 11 points to key a 23-8 run over the next nine minutes for a 35-28 lead. Prairie View A&M would fight back and get within 37-35 with 52 seconds left but Kehlin Farooq closed out the half with a trey as TSU led 40-35.
PVAMU narrowed the gap to three on two occasions within the first minute of the second half but TSU once again took over as the aggressor and broke the game open as they outscored the Panthers 20-7 over the next eight minutes en route to a 64-46 lead after Kavion McClain's three free throws.
TSU would lead by as much as 21 with 4:59 left and never looked back to sweep the season series over PVAMU. TSU also won its fourth straight over the Panthers and seventh win over the past nine games in the series.
Farmer led TSU with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds as he was 6-of-7 from the field. Jaylen Wysinger added 13 followed by 12 from Grayson Carter. Farooq and Zaire Hayes both had 11 followed by 10 from McClain.
TSU opens SWAC Tournament play next week in Atlanta, Ga.
