HOUSTON – Texas Southern will face Arlington Baptist at home Thursday at 7 p.m. inside the Health & Physical Education Arena.
TSU opened the season with a 69-55 win over Wiley University, marking its first season-opening victory since 2023. The Tigers are 2-1 to start the 2025-26 campaign, including a dominant 101-point performance against Texas A\&M International in their last home game.
The Tigers return two starters – Daeja Holmes and Aaliyah Henderson – and one letterwinner, Maci Quiller, from last season while adding nine newcomers to the roster during the offseason.
Thursday's contest marks the first meeting between TSU head coach Vernette Skeete and Arlington Baptist. Skeete enters her fourth season at TSU after guiding the Tigers to a 14-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference record last year, finishing tied for second and reaching the SWAC Tournament semifinals. It was a dramatic turnaround from her first two seasons (9-49 overall).
Under Skeete, TSU made its first-ever postseason appearance last season, hosting a historic WNIT game and advancing to the second round before falling to Louisiana Tech.
Arlington Baptist head coach Skye Roach is in her third full season leading the Lady Patriots. She has guided the program to a runner-up finish in the 2023 NCCAA Division II National Championship, a 2025 Southwest Regional Championship, and coached six All-Region players and one NCCAA All-American.
During the 2024-25 season, Roach oversaw a major rebuild with only three returners, two junior college transfers, and 11 freshmen. After an 0-5 start, the Lady Patriots rallied to win the Southwest Regional Tournament as a No. 4 seed, upsetting the top two seeds and earning the program's 12th National Tournament appearance.
Roach has now won a Southwest Regional Championship and made a National Tournament appearance as a player, assistant coach, and head coach – a unique achievement in program history.
Skeete's all-time record in November is 4-17.
