• Texas Southern returns to action for its first home game of the 2024 season as they'll host Jackson State Saturday night at 6 p.m. inside Shell Energy Stadium.
• Saturday's contest will feature live audio on KTSU 90.9 FM and will be shown live on ESPN+.
• TSU is coming off a tough 20-17 loss at Lamar as LU scored the go-ahead touchdown in the final minute. TSU started a new QB for the third straight game but had a bright spot in running back Quintell Quinn as he was named SWAC Newcomer of the Week after rushing for 149 yards on 23 attempts.
• TSU will face Jackson State for only the fourth time since 2016 and its second meeting in Houston since 2021. Since the SWAC started divisional play in 1999 both teams have only met 18 times. JSU has won nine straight over TSU as TSU's last "official" win over JSU occurred in 2000 which is the last time TSU won in Jackson, Miss.
• Picked third in the SWAC East, Jackson State is under second-year head coach T.C. Taylor. JSU is off to 2-2 start as this marks its first SWAC contest of the year. Their games against Southern and Grambling State were non-conference contests. JSU ranks second overall in the SWAC in total offense and third in defense.
• JSU head coach T.C. Taylor served as an assistant at TSU for two seasons (2012-13) under former head coach and current JSU radio commentator Darrell Asberry. JSU offensive line coach Manny Ramirez served in the same position at TSU the past two seasons.
• TSU had six players earn preseason All-SWAC honors as linebacker Jacob Williams earned first team honors while defensive end Michael Akins, offensive lineman Mehdi Torrence, linebacker Isaiah Bogerty, quarterback Jace Wilson and defensive back Javius Williams earned second team honors.
• TSU was picked to finish sixth in the SWAC West. The Tigers have to replace all-time leading rusher LaDarius Owens at running back as they return five starters on offense and eight on defense.
• TSU currently ranks fourth overall in total defense in the SWAC (340.7).
• Linebacker Jacob Williams is coming off a career season with 106 tackles and eight sacks. TSU has not had back-to-back 100-plus tacklers since linebacker Kevin Harris from 1988-90. Williams was TSU's first 100-plus tackler since 2004.
• Cris Dishman is the 18th head coach in the history of Texas Southern Football. Dishman inherits a tough task as the program has only had 28 winning seasons in 77 years of existence and hasn't recorded a winning season since 2000.
• A win on Saturday would mark TSU's best SWAC start (2-0) since 2014.
• Jackson State was the first-ever opponent to play TSU inside Shell Energy Stadium as the contest occurred in 2012.
