Texas Southern University Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Kevin Granger has announced a multiyear partnership with SuitMart Houston to outfit its men's athletic programs. The TSU men's basketball and golf teams were the first recipients of the new partnership as both made the trip to SuitMart's South Main location on Tuesday afternoon. Upon entering the establishment, both teams were introduced by longtime TSU Professor Dr. Lacey Reynolds to SuitMart President Gary Dante and Executive Vice President Cynthia Steward as both revealed that the teams could pick any suit combination off the rack and have it tailored to their respective sizes.
Once the announcement was made, both teams immediately set out to outfit themselves under the guidance of SuitMart employees. The student-athletes spent two-plus hours with the SuitMart staff as Dr. Granger, head men's basketball coach Johnny Jones, and head golf coach Willie Shankle watched with great interest. The evolution of the partnership was a proud moment for Dr. Granger as the basis of his idea is to prepare and outfit TSU's student-athletes for life as they matriculate through college.
"We're excited about our partnership with SuitMart," said Granger. "Our male student-athletes will have an opportunity when they leave Texas Southern to have a quality outfit that they can utilize for important moments such as professional job interviews and other formal events. I also want to thank Dr. Reynolds for introducing me to Mr. Gary Dante and Miss Steward of SuitMart as our visions both aligned to the point where it's a perfect partnership.
The partnership with SuitMart is just the beginning in this area of growth for the department as Dr. Granger continues his vision for the enhancement and development of the Department of Athletics in this modern athletics landscape.
"We're starting with the men's basketball and golf programs and will periodically bring in other teams until we get everyone outfitted. My work is not done as the next task is to find a sponsor to outfit our women's programs as well."
