CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – TSU dropped a pair of matches at the Islander Classic on Friday.
JACKSONVILLE STATE 3, TSU 0
Jacksonville State jumped out to a 5-0 lead but TSU regrouped and tied it at 9-all. However, Jacksonville State reeled off nine straight points to lead 18-9 en route to a 25-15 win.

Set two saw TSU come out swinging with a 12-10 lead but TSU committed six errors which helped fuel a 15-4 surge as JSU won 25-16. Set three belonged to JSU from start to finish as they rolled out to a 10-3 lead and never looked back for a 25-13 win. Gracie Hill led TSU with seven kills while Angelika Rusin added 11 digs. Kennedi Walker added 13 assists from the setter position.

NORTH FLORIDA 3, TSU 1
TSU bounced back from a rough morning opener and fought to the end as they dropped a tough 3-1 matchup to North Florida.

UNF led 5-0 to open the match but the Lady Tigers fought back and tied it at 16-all followed by an 18-all tie. UNF moved back ahead 21-19 but Morgynne McQueen had an assisted block and kill to knot it at 21. UNF scored the next two points to lead 23-21 but Lauren Battle added three points to spark a 7-3 surge to close out the set ahead 28-26.

Set two was another back-and-forth affair as UNF led 11-5 before TSU rallied back and trailed 11-8 after kills from Battle and Kourtni Coller. UNF moved ahead 19-14 but TSU scored three of the next four to trail 20-18. The Ospreys pushed the lead back to 22-18 but TSU narrowed the gap to 23-21 before UNF scored the next two to even the set.

TSU led set three 12-10 but UNF went on a 7-2 run to lead 17-12. UNF pushed the lead to 22-17 but Gracie Lee added a pair of kills to get within 22-21 but three TSU attack errors led to a 3-0 UNF surge for a 25-21 win.

UNF led 11-3 to open set three and eventually 18-10 until a late TSU charge which drew them to within 19-17. TSU would get within 21-19 but UNF once again finished strong to win 25-21.

Battle led TSU with 15 kills followed by 13 each from Gracie Lee and Gracie Hill. Kennedi Walker had a career-best 49 assists while Collier had five blocks. Angelika Rusin led TSU with 18 digs defensively while Hill, Battle and Walker had 11 digs apiece.

TSU closes out tourney play against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. Saturday.
