Box ScorePRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – TSU volleyball dropped its SWAC opener by a 3-0 margin at Prairie View A&M on Wednesday.
In typical TSU-PVAMU fashion, the contest was nip-and-tuck to begin with as PVAMU led 4-1 before TSU rallied back and tied it at 6-all after Taryn Stafford's kill. TSU would move ahead 10-9 as there were five ties from that point. It appeared TSU would break through as they moved ahead 19-17 after Keldri's Young kill shot in the middle of the court. However, a TSU attack error and service ace by PVAMU led to a TSU timeout. Neither team could break away as there were five more ties with the last at 24-all but PVAMU logged a kill and a block to close out set one 26-24.
TSU had a slow start in set two as they fell behind 11-3 before rallying to cut the deficit to 12-10. PVAMU would counter with a 6-1 run to lead 18-11 but TSU used its defense to get back within 18-14. Three straight points by PVAMU upped the lead back to seven (21-14) as they used the momentum to win set two 25-19.
TSU got back on track in set three as they led 16-14 but both teams found themselves tied at 17-all once again. Unfortunately, TSU hit the wall as PVAMU went on an 8-1 run to close out the match 25-18.
Gracie Hill led TSU with nine kills followed by eight from Lauren Battle. Kennedi Walker had 16 assists followed by 11 from Ava Ray. Angelika Rusin finished with 20 digs defensively.
