Katy, Texas – The Texas Southern Women's Golf Team posted a 925 (309 – 301 – 315) team total to finish in 4th place overall at the 30th anniversary of the National Women's Collegiate Golf Championship hosted by the Women's in Golf Foundation on Wednesday.
Junior Azul Amezcua was the top finisher for the Tigers with her fifth-place individual finish on nine-over-par 222 (74 – 67 - 81). Amezcua was the overnight leader after firing a 4-under-par 67 in her second round, which included seven birdies, seven pars, and three bogies, and led the tournament by one stroke.
Graduate student Kennedi Lee came in 15th place on 233 (79 – 75 - 79), while Alexa Gonzalez was three strokes back on 236 (79 – 78 - 79) and finished in 17th place overall. Sophomore Shawnise Gregory's five-over-par round was the Tigers' low score of the day, giving her a 238 (77 – 85 – 76) total. Phaith Harris finished on 242 (80 – 81 – 81).
The WIGF National Women's Collegiate Golf Championship was hosted at The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch with a 54-hole tournament format over three days.
The Tigers conclude their regular season at The "Mo" Memorial Invitational hosted by Texas A&M on April 7-8 in College Station, Texas at The Traditions Club.
