DENTON, Texas – After a solid start, the TSU women's basketball team couldn't maintain the momentum in the second and third quarters as they fell 78-54 at North Texas on Thursday evening.
Tied at nine in the first quarter, Courtlyn Loudermill's three-pointer moved TSU ahead 12-9 but UNT would tie it several minutes later. TSU would turn to Daeja Holmes to jumpstart its offense with four consecutive points followed by five from Treasure Thompson as they led 21-14 at the close of the quarter.
The momentum was short-lived for TSU unfortunately as they went scoreless (0-for-7) for the first four minutes of the half while UNT opened on a 16-2 run to lead 30-23. TSU would cut it to five but struggled with only two field goals the entire half as UNT claimed a 35-26 halftime lead.
Loudermill's jumper at the 9:37 mark cut the deficit to seven at 35-28 as TSU kept it within single digits over the next minute. However, UNT broke the game open as they outscored TSU 23-10 for a 58-38 third quarter lead as they would maintain that margin for the remainder of the game.
Loudermill, who spent one season at North Texas, led TSU with 12 points. Alisa Knight and Deivejon Harris finished with five rebounds apiece.
TSU is back in action Monday night in Stillwater, Okla. to face Oklahoma State.
