All I got to say is we betta not lose to a school called North American 😡😄
That one better be a guarantee, even though it won't truly count

Well we got the win but still changes need to be made with this team..
Ended the season at 2-8 (2-6) with a promising future... with some apparent holes with stats to back it up:

OFFENSE Highlights:
- #3 in average points per game
- #4 in overall TD's (3.9 TD/g, 3rd overall behind Alabama A&M @ 5.1 TD/g and Jackson State @ 4 TD/g)
- Taking conference only statistics, we were 3rd overall in points per game in the SWAC
- #2 in the SWAC in RUSHING yds/g (short of first place by 9 yards to Southern)
- #2 in the SWAC in TOTAL yds/g
- #1 in the SWAC in AVERAGE YARDS per play
- #2 in the SWAC in TOTAL TD
- #2 in the SWAC in AVERAGE YARDS per game

DEFENSE Highlights:
- #12 in average allowed points per game in the SWAC -- DEAD LAST
- Taking conference only statistics, we were slightly better than UAPB on the defensive side at 35.4 ppg vs their 38.6 ppg to finish 11th
- #10 in the SWAC in TOTAL RUSHING YARDS allowed
- #11 in the SWAC in TOTAL PASSING YARDS allowed
- #12 in the SWAC in PLAYS (that's a lot of extra PT!)
- #11 in the SWAC in TOTAL YARDS allowed
- #9 in the SWAC in AVERAGE YARDS per play
- #10 in the SWAC in TOTAL TD allowed
- #11 in the SWAC in AVERAGE YARDS per game

OFFENSE/DEFENSE Conclusion:
The two teams in the SWAC Title game, Jackson State and Prairie View A&M had the most balanced teams in their respective SWAC divisions. Our Texas Southern had a great offensive showing this year, but the defense left a lot to be desired.
- JSU #2 on the offensive side, #1 on the defensive side
- PVAMU #4 on the offensive side, #3 on the defensive side
- RANDOM: UAPB had the worst team in the league, ranking last on both sides of the ball, how you gonna lose to them Grambling???

Here's the Coaching Staff as of today with the highlighted defensive coaches:

Both sides need to play mistake free. The youth will not be as much of an excuse next year. The offensive side had mistakes to clean up but they were definitely improved. The defensive side of the house definitely needs to be cleaned up. I'll let you draw your own conclusions, but keep in mind this is Ceasar's first gig above the High School level. Could a friendship be holding us back? Is it our talent or our inability to coach up? Here's Ceasar's resume from TSUSports:

I'm not here to rattle cages, but maybe just highlight what everyone already knows. We ALL want to win. Now, we had some studs on the defensive side of the ball (Badejo, Cooper, Martinez, Hamilton, & Walton to name a few), but what was the actual problem? I'll leave that open for discussion.

Coach Clarence McKinney had a lot to rebuild here, but finally got his first non-forfeit wins in his 3rd season at TSU. He's on a 5 year contract with us through the 2023 season. Just as a reminder he left a 310k job as running backs & associate head coach at Arizona. He followed Kevin Sumlin from Texas A&M where he was earning 450k+. According to govsalaries.com, he's earning upwards of a 300k+ base salary, which is similar to prior head coach Michael Haywood's salary.
2019: 0-11
2020: 1-2 (win coming by forfeit)
2021: 2-8
2022: ??
- We play at North Texas (9/10) and at UTSA (9/24)
2023: ??
- We play at Rice (9/16)

For future reference:
2024/2025: Home and Home with Lamar (Away 9/7/24, Home 9/13/25)
2027: @ Tulsa (9/11)

WE have to do our part and show up to these games in 2022 and beyond in droves to support these kids. The 12th man is a real thing. On the flip side, the alumni and fans want a championship team on the field -- it's the chicken and egg problem.

I think we should demote the DC keep him on to coach the Dline but we need to go a different direction with the DC. I believe we were still undersized on the defensive side of the ball other than Cooper and Walton out LB were slow and undersized. Im not sure who our S&C coach is but he needs to be looked at as well.
