Texas Southern University (TSU) is proud to be selected as Houston’s host institution for Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This 6,000 square-foot exhibit will be housed in TSU’s University Museum beginning January 30, 2017.
This one-of-a-kind interactive multimedia experience includes clips from NFL Films, specialized fan experiences, and a “Hometown Tribute” section to spotlight the Houston Texans and TSU’s Tigers in the NFL. Attendees can also enjoy the exhibit’s educational programming as well as visits from NFL Hall of Famers.
“The NFL is the world’s premier professional sports league. And one of the NFL’s most valued treasures is its history, of which the league is a staunch guardian. Choosing to allow Texas Southern University to house the Gridiron Glory exhibit is a powerful statement about the reputation TSU has built in the community and beyond,” said TSU President Dr. Austin A. Lane. “The only thing bigger than hosting the Gridiron Glory exhibit would be having the actual Super Bowl on the TSU campus. To say we are honored and excited is an understatement.”
The Gridiron Glory exhibit will be supplemented with the new Black College Football Hall of Fame display and Tigers in the NFL, a tribute to TSU players who made their mark in the League. This will position the Gridiron Glory Exhibition at Texas Southern University as a destination for football fans unlike any other locations on the exhibit’s tour.
“The NFL is making a gesture of serious meaning, housing Gridiron Glory on the TSU campus during Super Bowl season,” TSU Board of Regents Chairman Derrick M. Mitchell said. “This says a lot about the institution of TSU. It’s fantastic to know that the hundreds of thousands of visitors to Houston coming to experience the Super Bowl will also be able to celebrate one of the premier HBCUs in the nation.”
The NFL expects over 200,000 people will come to Houston for the Super Bowl festivities. The vast majority of them will make their way to TSU to experience not only a piece of the NFL Hall of Fame, but the best it has to offer.
“I’m excited for our students, faculty, and programs. The exposure this opportunity affords TSU is unparalleled. And it’s quite telling that only a few yards away sits a high school (Jack Yates) that has produced so many NFL greats. Not to mention the NFL greats to come out of TSU,” added TSU’s Vice President of University Advancement Eva Pickens.
There are several ways to become involved with this exciting initiative, which will raise money for student scholarships and support programs at TSU. They are: sponsorships and partnerships, venue rental, memorabilia, souvenir booklet ads and museum tickets. For additional information, visit the website at www.tsu.edu
The exhibit will reside on the TSU campus for three months beginning January 30, 2017 through April 30, 2017—before, during, and months after Super Bowl LI which will be played in Houston at NRG Stadium on February 5, 2017.
