Texas Southern freshman Demetrius Johnson was named to the College Sports Journal (CSJ) football All-American Freshman Second Team.
Johnson is a true freshman cornerback from Memphis, TN. He played in 11 games for the Tigers in the 2013 season where he recorded 41 tackles (29 unassisted). He led TSU with 8 pass breakups. He also had 2 interceptions and 1 TFL. Johnson had a season high 9 tackles against Howard and 8 tackles against UAPB. He also had 2 pass breakups against UAPB and Howard. He ranked 41st in NCAA for pass defense.
The College Sports Journal was the first major news organization to begin recognizing an All-Freshman team at the FCS level.
The All-Freshman team was selected by a blue ribbon panel of FCS experts put together by College Sports Journal executive editor David Coulson and CSJ publisher and managing editor Chuck Burton.
Johnson was one of three freshmen selected from the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
