Houston, Texas- Despite an incredible performance by Damian Garcia, who hit four home runs and drove in eight runs, Texas Southern fell short against UAPB Golden Lions in a high-scoring affair, losing 19-14 on Sunday.
Garcia's power was on full display, homering in the first, third, seventh, and ninth innings. His solo shot in the first inning put Texas Southern on the board early, but UAPB Golden Lions responded with a six-run second inning to take the lead.
Texas Southern fought back with Garcia's second home run in the third inning and Bryce Hughes' three-run homer in the fourth, narrowing the gap. Tyler Legendre added a solo home run in the fifth, and Garcia continued his dominance with a two-run homer in the seventh.
In the ninth inning, Garcia's fourth home run and Jaden Jones' groundout brought Texas Southern closer, but it wasn't enough to overcome UAPB Golden Lions' offensive onslaught.
James Malone took the loss for Texas Southern, allowing six runs on seven hits over two innings. Despite the defeat, Texas Southern showcased their hitting prowess with 17 hits, including multiple hits from Hughes and Elijah Rodriguez. The team also turned a triple play and a double play, and were flawless in the field with no errors.
UAPB Golden Lions' offense proved too strong, tallying 20 hits and scoring in multiple innings to secure the victory. Voth earned the win, despite giving up nine hits and six runs over three and two-thirds innings.
Texas Southern will look to bounce back in their next game at home against Prairie View A&M on Thursday, Arpil 17.
