Houston, Texas— Texas Southern defeated the Panthers 15-5 in a decisive game led by Jaden Flores' four RBIs.
Jaden Flores drove in four runs on two hits to lead Texas Southern past the Panthers 15-5 on Friday. Flores doubled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and hit a home run to left field in the seventh inning, scoring two.
Texas Southern opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with two doubles. Damian Garcia doubled, scoring one run. Texas Southern added one run in the second when Bryce Hughes singled down the left field line, making the score 4-0.
The Panthers scored two runs in the top of the fourth on a home run to left field by Jayden Williams. They took the lead, 5-4, in the top of the fifth thanks to home runs by Ahmar "Tiger" Donatto and Landon Williams.
Texas Southern flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring six runs on five hits to take the lead, 10-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Garcia that drove in two.
Texas Southern scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. Garcia doubled, scoring one run; EJ Alanis singled, scoring two runs; and Flores homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Josh Prieto earned the win for Texas Southern, allowing zero hits and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out three and walking two. Kamar Dove took the loss for the Panthers, surrendering four runs on five hits over one inning, striking out one and walking three. Kewan Braziel led off on the mound for Texas Southern, surrendering seven hits and five runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking three.
Texas Southern collected 16 hits in the game. Hughes and Garcia each collected three hits, while Garcia and Flores each drove in four runs. Kelton Phillips and Jaden Jones each collected multiple hits. Texas Southern showed patience at the plate, tallying eight walks. Flores, Jones, and Evan Joubert led the team with two walks each.
Williams and Donatto each collected two hits for the Panthers. Williams and Williams each drove in two runs. Donatto stole two bases, and the Panthers turned two double plays in the game.
The third and final game of the series is scheduled for tomorrow at 1 PM.
