HOUSTON — Texas Southern capped off Senior Night with a commanding 3–0 win over St. Thomas (TX) on Sunday evening at Durley Field, delivering a performance that showcased both experience and depth.
Jacylyn Russ opened the scoring in the 11th minute, netting her first goal of the season off an assist from Melissa Knutson. TSU controlled possession and tempo, outshooting the Celts 22–9 and earning four corner kicks to none.
Kaia Butler doubled the lead in the 56th minute, finishing a well-executed play assisted by Liliane Clase Baez and Savannah Muldrew. Less than 11 minutes later, Ava Magana added the final goal with an unassisted strike in the 67th minute.
Goalkeeper Alessandra Bastidas recorded five saves in the shutout, while the Lady Tigers' defense held firm against late pressure from the Celts (3-2-2).
The match also honored Texas Southern's senior class, who were recognized before kickoff for their contributions to the program.
The Lady Tigers will now enjoy a week of rest before opening conference play with a four-game road stretch, beginning at Jackson State.
