HOUSTON- Charles McClelland walked over to the desk in the corner of his office in Texas Southern's Health and Physical Education Arena.
He opened the top drawer and dug around for a minute before he found them. Two pennies - one shiny and copper, the other more dull.
He smiled as he talked about them.
McClelland, the athletic director at TSU, is a superstitious man. He has always picked up pennies and his children give him a hard time, letting him know they can't be face down and be good luck.
So when he saw the two on the ground on campus one day facing the right way, he grabbed them and put them in his desk drawer.
Since those two pennies took up residence in his desk drawer, TSU has won 17 Southwestern Athletic Conference championships.
